80th Anniversary
In 2025, QIMR Berghofer is celebrating 80 years of pioneering medical research in Queensland.
Over the past eight decades, QIMR Berghofer’s dedicated scientists and researchers have made significant contributions to the world of medicine that in turn have made life-changing and lifesaving differences to patients and their families worldwide.
From an abandoned World War II US Army hut in the grounds of Victoria Park, to the world-class institute of today occupying three buildings within the Herston Health Precinct, QIMR Berghofer has consistently pioneered medical breakthroughs. Director and CEO Professor Fabienne Mackay says the 80th anniversary is a time to reflect on the amazing achievements of the Institute and recognise all of those who have contributed.
“In this milestone year, we want to thank all the scientists, researchers, staff, donors, organisations, participants and the community who have supported us throughout the years.”
