From humble beginnings in a ramshackle, run-down hut in Herston, Brisbane in 1945, the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, now known as QIMR Berghofer, is renowned for its rich history of scientific discoveries. Click here to read more about our history.

Central to Queensland’s economic heartland and the collaborative Herston Health Precinct, QIMR Berghofer is located next to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and close to universities.

Less than 3 kilometres from Brisbane’s Central Business District and 10 kilometres from Brisbane International Airport, QIMR Berghofer's campus at Herston is an hour’s drive from both Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast beaches. Easily accessed by road, train and bus, Herston is well-linked to health and research facilities across the city.
