About

Associate Professor David Frazer is the Head of the Molecular Nutrition Laboratory at QIMR Berghofer and he has been investigating the role of iron in health and disease for over 25 years. He joined QIMR Berghofer in 1998 as a PhD student and began examining the molecular basis of intestinal iron absorption and its regulation. Following his PhD, David devoted his career to understanding how the body regulates iron and the impact of this element on human health and disease, and has made major contributions to the study of intestinal iron absorption and the regulation of body iron homeostasis. He has provided expert advice on the use of oral iron supplements to the Advisory Committee on Complementary Medicines, which advises the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration, and is a member of the steering committee to develop the Asia-Pacific Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Iron Deficiency in Adults.
