Dr Jackson Thorp is a statistical geneticist specialising in the study of psychiatric disorders. Dr Thorp obtained a PhD in Statistical Genetics from the University of Queensland in 2023, for which he was awarded the Dean's Award for Outstanding Higher Degree by Research Thesis. He uses a cross-disciplinary approach, drawing on his background in psychological science and statistics, to provide novel insights into the genetic underpinnings of psychopathology and advance clinical translation of genetic findings.

His work has discovered hundreds of new genetic markers for mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. Dr Thorp is also a core member of several international research consortia, including the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium and the International Cannabis Consortium. He has received multiple awards and grants for his research, including an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellowship in 2024 and an Early Career Investigator award from the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics in 2021.
