Do you have lived-experience of ovarian cancer, as a patient or a carer for a loved one?
We are looking for consumer members to join our Ovarian Cancer Advisory Panel and help researchers understand the particular needs of people with ovarian cancer.
We hope to convene the Ovarian Cancer Advisory Panel in late-March/early-April to meet with Dr Mainá Bitar.
Dr Bitar is an early career researcher in the Functional Genetics Laboratory. She is a Bioinformatician who analyses biological data to understand how gene alterations can contribute to cancer risk and cancer development.
Mainá plans to apply for an Ideas Grant from the NHMRC (federal government) in mid-April, focusing her research on ovarian cancer.
If you are interested to help, what would be involved?
- You will join our current advisory panel of two members with lived-experience, as a patient or carer, of ovarian cancer. We hope to expand the group to at least 4 members.
- You would attend the meeting in late-March to learn more about the project and give your feedback
- If the project is funded, we will keep the panel informed of the project’s progress and seek your help (if you wish) to communicate the findings to the community.
- There may also be opportunities to be involved in other research projects or even partner with other researchers at the Institute.
- For each activity we will also offer you compensation for your time, following the QIMR Berghofer remuneration guidelines.
- The contributions of the panel will be included in the grant application and also the acknowledgements section of resulting publications.
