With an active social club, dedicated prayer and meditation room, parent's room, and regular Friday pop-up bar, QIMR Berghofer creates an appreciated and inclusive community for all employees to enjoy. We value the health and morale of our employees and reward them for all their hard work over the year.
QIMR Berghofer’s Staff Association and Social Club are a regular hub of activities, from a regular walking club to board game nights, table tennis tournaments, and wine-tasting experiences. Always eager for new volunteers, QIMR Berghofer’s Staff Association is also responsible for planning the annual Christmas party where all employees get together and celebrate the year gone.
Schotts is QIMR Berghofer’s resident bar open on Friday afternoons for all employees to wind down and enjoy discounted food and drink with colleagues. With regular theme nights and a weekly trivia challenge, Schotts is the perfect place to get to know people from outside your own work area in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
QIMR Berghofer also has a very active social calendar, with a strong focus on wellbeing. We celebrate events including International Women’s Day, Happiness Day, R U Okay Day, NAIDOC Week, and Mental Health Week.
We regularly host internal and external researchers through our Seminar Series. On occasion, we host a ‘Science Explained – Lunch and Learn’ series which is a lay-friendly information series specifically designed for non-scientific staff to keep up-to-date on the latest research being conducted at the Institute. Staff have access to state-of-the-art laboratories and the latest research technology, and support from our on-site operations, grants, and administrative teams.
Located in Herston, QIMR Berghofer is only 3 km from Brisbane City and right next to Victoria Park, making it the ideal location to study and work. The onsite and local cafes provide employees with accessible breakfast, lunch, and coffee options, while Victoria Park Bistro and Fortitude Valley are only a quick stroll away.
