PhD/PhD (Non-Review)

Complete your PhD at QIMR Berghofer.

Eligibility

To be accepted as PhD student at QIMR Berghofer you must:

  1. be enrolled in a PhD degree at an Australian University or recognised overseas University
  2. have already arranged a research project or placement with a QIMR Berghofer supervisor
  3. have a living stipend scholarship and a tuition fee scholarship.
  4. submit a completed PhD Admission at least one month before you want to start at QIMR Berghofer
  5. International students must obtain an appropriate visa from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. This process may take more than 12 weeks to finalise and this should be taken into consideration when determining your visit dates;
  6. International students must also have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) insurance.

There are two classifications of PhD students at QIMR Berghofer, these are explained below.

Definitions:

PhD review student - is a student that will be reviewed using QIMRB guidelines and processes. Your primary advisor will be a QIMRB staff member.

PhD non-review student - a QIMRB staff member is one of your co-advisors and you need access to the Institute to work with them and have meetings. The Institute will not be overseeing your candidature reviews and you will not be eligible to apply for Higher Degree Committee funds. Your access will be business hours only unless you apply for an exemption.

Application process

All documents should be in English.

If you are unsure, please email the Graduate education team for clarifications.

Please provide the following documents:

  1. completed PhD Admission form
  2. completed Student IP Deed
  3. current curriculum vitae or resume
  4. brief project outline (no more than one page)
  5. copy of Passport photo page or driver's license for identification purposes
  6. enrolment document from your University
  7. evidence of your PhD Scholarship or address how you will support yourself during the candidature
  8. proof of a valid visa to study in Australia (international student)
Approval process

Once we have received the completed form and all supporting documents, the Higher Degrees Committee will consider your application and Human Resources will notify you of the outcome in writing as soon as possible.

Getting started

Please confirm your start date with the Human Resources Advisor.

On or prior to your first day, you must complete any conditions associated with your admission.

On your first day, a member of the research group will need to meet you at reception to assist you with the Induction process.
